Treasurer - Emmaus Salford

Published date: Thursday 22 February 2018
Closing date: Ongoing
Location: Emmaus Salford
Type: Trustee

Emmaus Salford is a progressive local organisation which provides a home, work and companionship for previously homeless people and which serves the community by collecting, refurbishing, and recycling surplus and discarded goods.

Based in Pendleton, right by the Shopping City, Emmaus Salford is part of the international Emmaus movement, and a member of Emmaus UK, our national federation. Emmaus is a secular movement with strong principles of non-discrimination, social inclusion and seeking to help those in the greatest need.

We are looking to recruit a new Treasurer to the Emmaus Salford board of trustees. We need someone who is a qualified accountant and willing to join the trustee board to help direct Emmaus Salford towards achieving its mission and help ensure that the organisation is effectively managed.

You would need to be able to make a commitment to Emmaus and to Emmaus' principles, have social concern, independent judgement, and a willingness to speak your mind. The trustees meet as a board 12 times each year.

Emmaus Salford has competent admin and finance staff in post, so the treasurer does not have to undertake routine book-keeping. He or she will have oversight of financial and accounting operations and will:

  • provide regular reports to the board
  • prepare annual budgets and longer-term financial plans
  • prepare annual accounts and ensure compliance with accounting regulations
  • liaise with our independent examiners
  • advise on relevant tax issues, including VAT and gift aid.

Younger people (i.e. under 40) and Salford citizens are under-represented on our board at present. We wish to remedy this and welcome enquiries from any qualified person from all sections of the community. Trustees must be at least 18 years of age.

Being a trustee is a voluntary role, but we reimburse travel and other out-of-pocket expenses. We will provide a full induction to the Emmaus movement.
