Trustee / Treasurer - Emmaus Mossley

Published date: Monday 4 February 2019
Closing date: Ongoing
Location: Emmaus Mossley
Type: Voluntary

Emmaus Mossley is looking to recruit new members to join our Board of Trustees who will bring skills to help us achieve our mission and ensure effective management.

Emmaus Mossley is a charity that offers a home and work to 26 companions (formerly homeless people). Both our community home and social enterprise are based at Longlands Mill in Mossley.

Emmaus communities support people to work their way out of homelessness, providing meaningful work as well as a stable home for as long as someone needs it. Those who are ready to move on are supported to do so and whilst in the community, companions are offered training, support and counselling by a trained staff team.

Our most important principle is that people regain their self-esteem through work and not the provision of charity. This is a unique and innovative long-term solution to homelessness and something all our companions take pride in.

All our companions work in the social enterprise, collecting and selling donated goods in our Secondhand Superstore. The money generated through this work sustains our community financially and supports our other charitable work, called Solidarity, which helps others who are socially excluded and in need.

Emmaus Mossley is part of a wider Emmaus UK and Emmaus International secular movement with strong principles of non-discrimination and social inclusion.

New trustees

We are particularly looking for someone with financial skills to act as Treasurer but we would also welcome individuals to join as Trustees who have the following skills or experience: running a business; working in retail; Health & Safety or HR. All these skills would strengthen the Emmaus Mossley Board for any future challenges we may face.

Trustee commitment

The trustees meet as a board six times a year and individual trustees are involved in other ways as their time permits. Trustees would need to be able to make a commitment to Emmaus and its principles, have social concern, independent judgement and work as part of a team. Trustees must be at least 18. Being a trustee is a voluntary role but we reimburse some travel and out-of-pocket expenses.
