Our trustees

Our board of trustees volunteer their time and skills to Emmaus UK to ensure we are meeting the objectives set out in our strategic plan.

Frank McMahon - Chair

Frank was appointed to the Board of Emmaus Village Carlton in 2006 and became Chair in 2009. He retired as a head teacher in 2005, after 25 years leading three different schools and having worked in four local authorities. He has a wide experience in serving on and chairing numerous advisory and professional committees and organisations. Frank was a freelance education consultant for five years, project-managing pupil integration and school cluster liaison initiatives. He was also a consultant for the National College for School Leadership and facilitated their professional development programmes for new and aspiring headteachers and middle managers.

David Cooper - Vice Chair

David Cooper was elected to the UK Board of Trustees in December 2012.  After a career in the nuclear power industry, he first became involved with Emmaus in 2007, when he attended a meeting of the group working to establish Emmaus Hastings & Rother. He became a trustee of Emmaus Hastings & Rother in 2008 and has been Chair since 2009.

Sue Taylor - Vice Chair

Sue first became involved with Emmaus in 2014 when she took on an Interim Community Director role at Emmaus Coventry & Warwickshire. After a year in that role she stepped down, before joining the community's board in September 2015. Sue has spent her career working in housing and understands the challenges facing the sector. She joined the board of Emmaus UK in 2016.

Richard Wallace - Treasurer

Richard joined the board of Emmaus UK in 2017, taking on the role of treasurer. He is a qualified Chartered Accountant and MBA with senior level experience in central government.

Diane Docherty - Trustee

Diane was elected to the Board of Emmaus Cambridge in 2010, and became Chair of the board in early 2012. Having been involved in the housing and homelessness sector for some 20 years, doing work from front-line support to strategic housing consultation, she is passionate about removing the barriers to inclusion that homeless people face. In September 2012, Diane took up the position of director of Emmaus Cambridge, and in December 2012 she was elected to the UK Board.

Tony Ferrier - Trustee

Tony is Chief Executive of Emmaus St Albans. He has worked for the charity since 2011, having previously volunteered for a year. Tony has keen interests in endurance and distance cycling, scuba diving, and playing his guitar.

Ruby Dickens - Trustee

Ruby joined the board of Emmaus UK in 2016. She first experienced an Emmaus community while volunteering at a community in France while at University. Ruby developed a love for the organisation and, after graduating from university, worked for Emmaus UK in the fundraising department for two years, leaving in 2015. Ruby currently works for Shelter and remains committed to supporting people who need it most.

John Clark - Trustee

John joined the board of Emmaus UK in 2017 and is also a trustee of Emmaus Greenwich. A retired solicitor, John is motivated by helping those less fortunate than himself. As well as carrying out his trustee role at Emmaus Greenwich, he also volunteers as a van driver one day per week.
