South Wales Community on the road
Our Deputy Community Manager and CEO with the new van!
The Community home, Nant Lais in Bridgend now has a Community van that seats nine. The van will be used as a run around and to carry out collections of donated food from local businesses across the borough, and also for recreational activities for the Companions. The purchase of the van has been made possible by shop revenue. This would not have been possible without local people donating and purchasing items in our seven shops across South Wales.
Accessible transport can often be taken for granted during our day to day lives. Nick, a Companion who can drive the new Community van, explains how it has positively affected him and the Community as a whole.
Nick said "The van has given us more independence and allowed us to continue our links with businesses in the surrounding Community. It has also meant we can go on day trips on the weekend, providing the Welsh weather is good to us."
So far, the Companions have used the van to go to Margam Country Park on a weekend and plan on going camping in the near future. The van has given the Companions the opportunity to go on recreational activities without having to rely on public transport. This has given them the chance to gain some normality back into their lives and use it for pleasure, as well as business.
