'First Give' success for Emmaus South Wales
Emmaus South Wales has won £500 this month from the First Give programme. The programme works in partnership with secondary schools to help young people give their time and talents to help the local community.
Over the course of the programme, students identify social issues in their area and engage with local charities that address them. The students then make a five minute presentation to their peers and a judging panel, in hope of winning one of three prizes. First prize wins £1,000, whilst the two runners up receive £250 of grant money for their charity.
This month Emmaus South Wales was lucky enough to receive £250 from two schools involved in the programme, Ysgol Gyfun Gymraeg Llangynwyd and Brynteg Comprehensive School.
Our Marketing Coordinator, Georgia Tandy and Companion Marc were able to attend Brynteg's First Give finals where Lauren and Megan were runners up, winning £250 for Emmaus South Wales.
Georgia said "It was so nice to see the next generation being educated on social issues, learning about how Emmaus South Wales help the local community whilst developing key communication skills."
Emmaus South Wales would like to thank all students and staff from Ysgol Gyfun Gymraeg Llangynwyd and Brynteg Comprehensive School and also the First Give programme.
