Our volunteers tell us that giving their time to work with Emmaus is a rewarding experience and can be a lot of fun. There are many different roles available at both our store and within our community. Please get in touch if you would like to help us and we may be able to find a role to suit you. All our volunteer positions offer flexible working hours, variable time commitment, and expenses are paid.

Cookery volunteer: to work with Companions in the kitchen at the community to help them learn new recipes by showing them how to prepare a wider variety of evening meals. This is a new role and we would envisage the volunteer would be available for around 4 hours in the middle of the day (probably 11-3pm), at least once a week to 'coach' our small team of kitchen companions as to how to prepare and cook an evening meal for up to 30 people. We're thinking more like English classics (e.g. cottage pie) rather than Masterchef!
Bric-a-brac volunteer: to work with Companions in the Barns Road store to sort through, and price up, bric-a-brac. Whilst most of our business is furniture related, we also have a busy sideline in the more usual charity shop donations. We need help, for at least one half day a week (more if possible) to help out at the store, working alongside staff, volunteers, and Companions. The hours are flexible to suit the right candidate.
Volunteer Van Driver (Saturdays): Work at the heart of the charity, driving our 3.5 tonne Luton vans collecting & delivering second- hand furniture with Companions for our store. Must be able to lift heavy weights, enjoy working with a range of people and be a good organiser. Full day commitment (approximately 9am-4pm)
