Who we are
Emmaus Norfolk & Waveney in Ditchingham offers a sustainable route out of homelessness and a fantastic way of life within a supportive environment. The community is currently home to up to twenty three companions with no fixed time limits on length of stay.
On joining, companions commit to working a 40-hour week in a wide variety of roles, including anything from housekeeping to grounds maintenance, warehousing, display and customer service. Opportunities to develop confidence, self esteem, skills and interests are encouraged with vocational training also provided.
Our current companions bring with them a wealth of experience from a number of other communities and of course a lifetime’s worth of living. The community benefits from expertise in warehousing, electrical PAT testing, grounds maintenance, recycling, repair, joinery, catering and customer service.
We are committed to Emmaus values - companions regularly collect and distribute food for local food bank; distribute soup and blankets to rough sleepers; and volunteer over Christmas at a lunch club for people who are vulnerable or lonely.
The community also endeavours to be a good neighbour and supports local groups with events such as bonfire night, fetes and Christmas fayres. Discretionary discounts and home-starter kits are offered to those in need.
Companions don’t always want to shout loud about themselves as individuals but you will be assured of a warm welcome from each and every one when you visit.
We have a small café on site, offering homemade refreshments for our customers with regular events and sales throughout the year - please check our news pages or follow us on Facebook.
