Formerly homeless people currently supported by Emmaus Norfolk & Waveney is calling on the support of the public to help disadvantaged families with new-born babies.

The Ditchingham-based charity, which supports 23 people who have experienced homelessness, is creating the baby baskets and will donate them to low income families and single parents with new-born babies.

Residents at the charity are keen to encourage school groups, businesses, families, groups and individuals to get involved by collecting essential items for new-born babies, including:

·       Baby-grows

·       Vests

·       Nappies

·       Nappy rash cream

·       Blankets

·       Booties

·       Baby shampoo and lotion

·       Changing bags

·       Mobiles

·       Bed linen

·       Bassinettes

Steve O’Brien, Retail Operations Manager at Emmaus Norfolk & Waveney, said:

“Solidarity, meaning to help someone less fortunate than yourself, is a key value to Emmaus. The people we support are all working hard to rebuild their lives and address any issues that may have caused them to become homeless in the first place, whether that be addiction, mental health issues, family or relationship breakdown, or job loss. Residents are always more than willing to lead on projects like this as it shows them that they have the capability to help others while helping themselves. We are extremely proud of everyone involved in the project and hope that they receive the support they need from the public to create as many baby baskets as possible.”

Emmaus Norfolk & Waveney offers an alternative route out of homelessness within a supportive environment for 23 people. When someone joins its community, they are offered a home for as long as needed and the opportunity to gain work experience in its two charity shops in Ditchingham and Bungay.

Item donations can be dropped off at Emmaus House, Belsey Bridge Road, NR35 2DZ. For enquires regarding the baby baskets, please contact Steve on 01986 895444.
