Hidden Heroes 2019 - Lifetime Achievement category winner

Volunteer Keith with his award

Emmaus UK has teamed up with Room to Reward to offer Emmaus companions, volunteers, trustees, staff and those supported by the charity the opportunity to be recognised by their peers and win a two night break to reward them for the work they do for Emmaus. Room to Reward was created to say thank you to “Hidden Heroes” - the inspirational people who do so much in the name of charity. Winners are awarded a two night bed and breakfast hotel stay, for themselves and a guest, at a choice of hotels throughout the UK and Europe.

Keith is one of the longest serving volunteers at Emmaus Mossley and is described as being a stalwart of their community. He has a wealth of knowledge and experience that he brings to his volunteering role.

Keith has volunteered for Emmaus since 2010 and has given his time for two days per week. He volunteers primarily in the wood workshop but also helps with various maintenance and building improvement works. This includes repairing furniture, building book shelves, bird tables, picnic benches and helping to replace flooring.  He is also an active member of the Building Committee.

His furniture repairs have saved many items from going to a landfill and instead they have generated considerable revenue for Emmaus Mossley. He has also trained and developed the skills of numerous companions and fellow volunteers, sharing his considerable experience to help them progress with their skills.

Keith is coming up to his 74th birthday and still continues to work hard despite certain difficulties. His dedication to Emmaus Mossley is truly inspirational and he is such a humble and modest gentleman.'
