Emmaus Suffolk, the Ipswich based homeless charity, has opened its third charity shop in the seaside town of Felixstowe.

Situated in the popular Station Square area of Felixstowe, the new shop turns the notion of the traditional charity shop on its head, and sells a wide variety of pre-loved clothes, upcycled furniture, vintage items and Bric-a-Brac.

Visitors to the shop will also be able to purchase Sesi refillable products, a range of sustainable detergents to help those looking to reduce their plastic consumption and packaging waste. In addition, the shop also stocks of RM Chalk furniture paint- a range of recycled paint that has been created from surplus household and commercial paints.

The ethos behind Emmaus Suffolk is to provide work opportunities and experience to those who have been unemployed for a long time or those that are homeless or at risk of being so. By offering volunteering roles within its social enterprises, it provides people with the chance to make a difference for themselves, in a supportive environment through work related experience and training.

Unlike the traditional Emmaus model, at present Emmaus Suffolk does not provide residential accommodation, but it works with and encourages their non-residential companions to enter back into the workplace and to lead a more fulfilling life.

Emmaus Suffolk, opened its first charity shop on the outskirts of Ipswich in 2016, quickly followed by its second in the Sailmakers shopping Centre in central Ipswich. The new shop in Felixstowe is further testament to the commitment of the charity to extending its support across the Suffolk region.

Claire Staddon, Executive Lead at Emmaus Suffolk said,

“When we established Emmaus Suffolk we did so with the aim of supporting vulnerable people across the Suffolk region. For the last two years we have concentrated on Ipswich and the surrounding area, but we are delighted to have been given the opportunity to extend our reach to Felixstowe. Station Square is a great location and we look forward to bringing our unique offering to this part of Suffolk.”
