Phil receives community award from Friends group
A member of the Emmaus Merseyside community has received a special award from Friends of Bowersdale Park.
On Thursday 2 August, Phil Gibbon, who lives and works at Emmaus Merseyside, was presented with The Community Award by Friends of Bowersdale Park. The presentation was made at the annual Bowersdale Park Family Fun Day, in recognition for the work Phil has undertaken in the Seaforth community.
“I was very surprised to get the award from the Friends of Bowersdale Park. I think I got the award for supporting local events and helping to organise and run the community litter picks with my fellow Emmaus Merseyside companions.
“Since we first had a stall at last year’s Family Fun Day, Emmaus Merseyside has got more involved in the local area, helping as much as we can. It’s great that the local kids and adults are engaging in these activities and we’re seeing a general improvement in the area with people becoming more invested in what they’ve got.”

Emmaus Merseyside supports formerly homeless people by providing a stable home and meaningful work for as long as they need it. The charity runs three social enterprises in Merseyside, taking in and selling donated and refurbished furniture, household goods, bric-a-brac and vintage pieces.
“We’re very proud of Phil and others within our community who have got involved in activities to improve the local area. This community recognition is fantastic for Emmaus Merseyside and we hope to contribute even more to Seaforth and Sefton over the coming years.”
