Week Three Round Up: Second Hand Santa Challenge

Emmaus Christmas Gifts DIY 21

On Sunday 17th December, Emmaus UK launched week-three of its Second Hand Santa challenge with some of the UKs top upcycling and craft bloggers to show people how to make the most of Christmas on a budget.

The group of bloggers were each challenged to create bespoke Christmas gifts using second-hand items found in Emmaus charity shops throughout the UK.

The Second Hand Santa challenge is taking place from Monday 4th December - Saturday 23rd December and bloggers will be sharing their creations on their social media channels each week to encourage people to visit their local Emmaus shop for a Christmas bargain.

"As a keen and enthusiastic supporter of this fantastic homelessness charity, I've re-imagined a new piece sourced from the Emmaus Bolton Superstore, using this lovely paper. I’m delighted to offer it up as a competition prize on Instagram. The winner will get the piece delivered to their door before Christmas.”

All money raised in Emmaus charity shops goes directly back into running of each Emmaus community and supporting companions to rebuild their self-esteem and move on with their lives.

There are currently 29 Emmaus communities across the country, supporting more than 800 companions in the UK. In addition there are four Emmaus groups, all of which are working towards setting up an Emmaus community in their area. Emmaus aims to offer 1,000 companion places by 2020.
