Government backs Homelessness Reduction Bill
Today, 24th October, the Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government, Sajid Javid, announced that the Government will be supporting Bob Blackman’s Homelessness Reduction Bill.
Simon Grainge, Chief Executive of Emmaus UK said: “It is extremely good news that the Government has listened to the many campaigners and homelessness organisations. By supporting changes in the law it will ensure local councils have more responsibility to help those who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless. The Bill is due to receive its second reading in the House of Commons on 28th October, but its progress is not guaranteed and we still need 100 MPs to go along to this. Please contact your MP and encourage them to attend.”
