Important Select Committee Backs the Bill

Homeless

This morning, the Communities and Local Government (CLG) Select Committee gave its backing to the Homelessness Reduction Bill. The Committee made some small suggestions how to improve the Bill but overall is very supportive.

The Homelessness Reduction Bill would require all councils in England to take action to prevent people from becoming homeless in the first place. It will put a legal responsibility on Councils to house people experiencing homelessness and enables them to help single homeless people in a way they cannot currently.

Simon Grainge, Chief Executive of Emmaus UK said "we welcome the Communities and Local Government Select Committee's report supporting the Homelessness Reduction Bill. Emmaus has been working closely with Crisis and other homelessness organisations to ensure as many MPs will be supporting the Bill at its Second Reading on October 28th."
