Emmaus Preston suffered a devastating blow recently when its flagship store closed down after a ceiling collapse.

Following the storms and heavy rain late in February, existing roof problems in the rented shop worsened, until, one weekend, staff members came in to find that the ceiling had fallen in.

The shop at 49-50 Friargate is closed until further notice.

Tracy Hopkins, chief executive of Emmaus Preston, said: ““We’ve had to go send staff in there wearing hard hats to remove the stock, but it has all been safely taken to our warehouse store at Deepdale Mill Street.

“We really want to encourage everyone to keep visiting us, just of Ribbleton Lane. People can continue to donate and shop in exactly the same way, and we have a wide selection of furniture, clothes and other goods. The only thing missing is our café."

Staff from the Friargate shop, many of them formerly homeless people who have been helped by Emmaus, will be working in the Deepdale shop so please pop in to say hello.
