Join us for the Emmaus Charity Football Match

Team Emmaus at Mossley AFC

A team of formerly homeless people supported by Emmaus are gearing up for a charity football match against a team brought together by Oldham Athletic mascot Chaddy the Owl.

The Emmaus Charity Football Match will take place on Bank Holiday Monday, 7 May, at Seel Park, home to Mossley A.F.C. Chaddy the Owl’s team will include special guests and the organisers are appealing for fans to come on down and show their support.

“We are delighted to support this event and assist in raising awareness of both Emmaus and the Oldham Mountain Rescue Team. As a charity ourselves we understand the importance of having the support from your local community.

“Throughout this season we have been committed to ensuring the good work done by others is recognised and supporting this event plays a key part in achieving that objective.”

Martin Vose, Manager of Oldham Athletic Community Trust

OAFC has supported Emmaus Mossley for the past two years with donations, visits to the club and player tours of the charity’s community base at Longlands Mill in Mossley. The partnership has helped to inspire weekly football training sessions, improving the health and wellbeing of Emmaus Mossley’s community members.

Emmaus communities support formerly homeless people by providing them with a home and work in a community setting. Each Emmaus runs different social enterprises, providing work and development opportunities whilst generating income to sustain the work of the charity.

“We have been working with Oldham Athletic and their Community Trust for some time now. This event is the culmination of months of training and the money raised will be shared between Emmaus and Oldham Mountain Rescue Team. We’re all really looking forward to this charity match and hope you can join us for a great day.”

Harry Barlow, Community Leader at Emmaus Mossley

The Emmaus team consists of formerly homeless people who are now supported by Emmaus communities in Burnley, Preston, Mossley and Salford. Each Emmaus community has their own five-a-side football team but the players have come together for this match to train and play as an eleven-a-side team.

The Emmaus Charity Football Match will take place on Bank Holiday Monday, 7 May from 12pm at Mossley A.F.C, Seel Park, 11 Market St, Mossley OL5 0ES. Entertainment for all ages will be on offer throughout the day as well as food, drinks and a charity raffle. Kick-off will commence at 1pm with live music following the game.
