Liverpool ONE volunteers help out at Emmaus Merseyside

Liverpool ONE volunteer day

Volunteers from Liverpool ONE have been giving back to the local community by supporting Emmaus Merseyside.

On Monday 16 April, a group of three Liverpool ONE employees spent the day volunteering at the Emmaus Merseyside Participation Garden. The team worked alongside formerly homeless people to construct new raised planters and carry out gardening work.

“We laughed, learned, and heard first-hand from the companions about the lifeline Emmaus offers. We had a fantastic day volunteering and felt a huge sense of achievement knowing that with the companions, we’d helped create a growing area that will feed the community.”

Joshua McMahon, Corporate Responsibility Co-ordinator at Liverpool ONE

Liverpool ONE is one of Europe’s leading retail and leisure destinations, set near to the historic waterfront. 2018 marks Liverpool ONE’s 10th anniversary and to celebrate they have launched a new volunteering programme, offering each team member 10 hours of community-based time.

“The Liverpool ONE volunteers did a fantastic job in our Participation Garden and it was great to have some extra helping hands. We’re really grateful to all of the volunteers and would like to thank Liverpool ONE for their continued support of Emmaus Merseyside.”

Angela Quinn, Business Manager at Emmaus Merseyside

Emmaus Merseyside supports formerly homeless people by providing them with a stable home and meaningful work for as long as they need it. The charity runs three social enterprises in Merseyside, taking in and selling donated and refurbished furniture, household goods, bric-a-brac and vintage pieces.
