Jora's Story - Volunteering with Emmaus Lambeth

IMG 20171010 WA0002

As well as taking on volunteers within our West Norwood community and shops in Wallington, Caterham and Carshalton, Dan Nisbett at Emmaus Lambeth also provides volunteers to help out at the kitchen for Lambeth Assessment Centre in Bond Way, Vauxhall.

The volunteers are there everyday providing hot meals for the homeless residents during their stay there, as they receive support and temporary accommodation.

Today, one of Dan's newest recruits, Jora, shares her story with us -

"You may know the saying in the English Language that says "Time passes quickly when you are having fun" -  that has proved very true for me.

I have very much enjoyed my cooking time in the kitchen volunteering for Emmaus Lambeth.

There are many homeless people sleeping rough in the streets and in the cities across this country and worldwide infact.

I hope to be patient and in my own way help them in small but meaningful ways.

What I am doing is I am cooking Chinese food for the clients every Friday at Lambeth Assessment Centre.

My hope is that I can bring them joy or love or feelings of warmth through food. It's absolutely the best volunteer experience I have had in my life.

I believe we can really change a person's life and make our world better!

So let's all try in our own way together!"

A massive thank you! to Jora for sharing her story today.

There is now only 4 days left to donate to our Walk for Solidarity 2017 campaign.
