A Local Lad
Shaun has been working for Emmaus Lambeth as a general helper for the last few weeks. The job centre has sent him for work experience selling clothes, bric-a brac and helping to collect and deliver furniture for four days a week whilst applying for jobs with permanent positions. Shaun commented "It's great being here as everyone is friendly and supportive".
Shaun was born in St Thomas's hospital opposite the Houses of Parliament and has lived in the area all his life. He has had a varied career history that has included being a chauffeur, a nickel plating technician, British Rail maintenance and a bus ticket salesman. He has met Denzil Washington on location in Battersea in 1980 for the film "For Queen and Country" and Ayrton Senna at Brands Hatch in 1985. Shaun said "Security was different in those days as you could just walk up to the stars".
Last week Shaun had a second stage interview that was one of 8 applicants that were reduced from 24. He didn't get the job so this time we couldn't say the boy done well. We could say their loss is our gain.
