Trustee, Emmaus North East
Emmaus North East is a charity for homeless people, which provides a home, work and companionship to individuals seeking to make a fresh start.
We have recently built and opened a community residence in South Shields for 15 previously homeless adults. The Companions, as they are known, are provided with meaningful employment in retail, catering, distribution and facilities management services throughout the charity’s social enterprises in South Tyneside and Gateshead.
Whilst living in the community, companions are given personal development advice, mentoring and training, which helps them work towards independent living and a re-entry into society.
This is an exciting time to join Emmaus North East as a Trustee. We are looking for individuals who are able to invest time in the charity and who possess a desire to help deliver our strategic priorities by using their experience, skills and competencies.
In particular, we are keen to talk with people who have experience in one or more of the following areas:
- Retail (particularly Charity retail)
- Marketing and Communications
- Local Government (particularly housing related)
- Human Resource Management
The Board presently meets monthly and, in addition, Trustees belong to sub-committees which undertake specific projects or have responsibilities in key operational areas. Being able to provide the necessary time and effort is essential. Living or working in South Tyneside is desirable but by no means a pre-requisite.
Trusteeship is a voluntary role and training will be given.
If you would like to make a real difference in society and enjoy the company of others with a commitment to the Emmaus ethos and values, please contact Jane Small for an informal discussion via email firstname.lastname@example.org.
