Bim Afolami MP visits Emmaus Hertfordshire

MP Bim Harpenden visit

On Friday 1 February, Bim Afolami MP for Hitchin and Harpenden visited local homelessness charity Emmaus Hertfordshire.

Emmaus Hertfordshire provides a home and meaningful for work for 39 people who have experienced homelessness and social exclusion.

The visit took place at one of Emmaus Hertfordshire's second-hand shops in Harpenden and included a tour of the site before Bim met with Emmaus staff and companions.

Emmaus Hertfordshire has five other shops in St Albans, Hertford, Hemel Hempstead, Tring and Barnet, all of which help to raise funds for the charity's accommodation in St Albans.

The visit was a chance to highlight the importance of Emmaus to the local community and to discuss homelessness as a wider issue. Bim spoke with staff and companions working in the shop about topics including the possibility of a local charity meet-up to encourage more partnerships, new ways to get more people off the streets and ideas for social housing.
