Companions work full-time (37.5 hours per week) in our community superstore either on the tills and the shop floor, in the stockrooms or wood and electrical workshops, in the Café, or on the van, collecting and delivering goods.

Companions are entitled to a week’s holiday every 13 weeks they stay and receive a holiday and travel allowance which they are allowed to spend as they choose.

Living on site in our purpose built accommodation block, companions are expected to take an active part in community life, making decisions about the business and the community by contributing to regular meetings and discussions.

Companions are supported by the community leader, two deputies ( support and business), three companion assistants (experienced and responsible companions) and an office manager. All staff are on hand to help with any problems or issues and will encourage companions to grow and develop through tailored support plans.

We asked our companions what Emmaus Hastings & Rother meant to them. Here's what they had to say...

“It’s a way to build a better, brighter future together as a family.”

“It’s the door to a fresh start.”

“It’s a safe haven.”

“It’s a reason to get up in morning.”

“It’s a great stepping stone.”

“It’s safe, secure, stable!”

“It’s a routine, motivation, a feeling like you’re needed.”
