Emmaus Hastings & Rother provides a home and meaningful work for 15 formerly homeless people.
By giving them a home for as long as they need it, Emmaus gives people the opportunity to gain stability in their lives and find a way to move on from homelessness.
A community leader and two deputies provide daily support and assistance to the Emmaus companions, the name we give to residents, whilst any specialist services are provided by local agencies and organisations.
Companions are provided with rent-free accommodation (including council tax, TV licences and utilities), food, clothing and a small weekly allowance. In return, they work full-time in the community superstore; collecting, renovating and reselling donated goods.
This work supports the community financially and enables companions to develop skills, discover new talents and rebuild their self-respect.
