Our history

Emmaus Greenwich is based in Plumstead and was opened in 1994 by His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales and Emmaus founder Abbé Pierre.

The main community shop in Plumstead

Currently the community offers a home to 34 companions, who work both in the main superstore on the community site in Plumstead and in our three other shops in Lewisham, Poplar, and Bexley.

Emmaus Greenwich has worked hard to build a good relationship with the local council and offers good value furniture to people in need. It is also a member of the Furniture Reuse Network, which means that its services are maintained to ISO standards.

Emmaus Greenwich estimates that, on average, it saves 360 tonnes of rubbish from going to landfill each year.
