Sunday opening at Emmaus Gloucestershire's superstore
The Emmaus superstore on Chequers Road in Gloucester will be opening its doors to shoppers on Sundays due to public demand. Starting from Sunday 29 April, the store will open from 10.30am to 4.30pm each Sunday.
The superstore sells quality used furniture, white goods, bric-a-brac, clothing, linen, books and vinyl records donated by local people. Customers visiting the superstore will also see an improved layout, with more room to browse and buy items.
Emmaus companions (former homeless individuals), staff and volunteers will be on hand to serve customers throughout the day. There will also be an opportunity for those who would like to consider volunteering for Emmaus to find out more from the team. You can also find out about the volunteer roles here.
Located in a former bus garage, the superstore is a social enterprise, with profits used to sustain the Emmaus Gloucestershire community, which offers accommodation and meaningful work for 31 formerly homeless companions. Companions also receive support and certified training in related vocational fields, which can then lead to greater independence.
Joe Feeley, Chief Executive Officer at Emmaus Gloucestershire said: ‘Our superstore offers a huge variety of items and we hope opening on Sundays will enable many more customers to visit. We’re also keen to hear from anyone who would like to volunteer for us at our shops shops in Gloucester, Cheltenham, Nailsworth and Stroud.’
