Concert raises over £1,800

Bruderhof fundraising concert 2

A Christian community from Nonington have raised £1,844.78 for Emmaus Dover, with a concert and silent auction.

The fundraising evening took place on 11th November at Beech Grove, the Bruderhof community’s base near Nonington village. Entertainment included choral pieces, a poetry recital and dancing by children from the community, followed by refreshments and a silent auction of handmade and home-grown goods.

Emmaus Dover provides a home and meaningful work for 27 people who have experienced homelessness and social exclusion. Some stay for a while as they gain confidence and skills before they are ready to move on to independent living; others are in need of longer-term support and are able to stay for as long as they need to.

The evening also included a moving contribution by companion Lawrence O’Sullivan (55) who spoke about his experience of homelessness and the support he has received from our charity.

Children from Beech Grove visited us the following day to pass on the news about the total raised.

The concert was beautiful and we were genuinely touched by their efforts. It was an amazing result from a very hardworking, delightful community. We’d like to extend our thanks to everyone who attended the evening. The money raised will kick-start our new appeal to raise money to fund a new building, helping us continue our support for those who have experienced homelessness.
