Thanks to all who helped us celebrate our charity’s 25th anniversary with a bumper year of fundraising.

Emmaus Coventry & Warwickshire opened its doors in 1993, so last year we launched a special ‘£25k for 25 years’ appeal and asked local people to help us reach this target by the end of 2018. The appeal was highly successful, smashing the original target and raising a total of £28,937. Thanks so much to everyone!

Since opening our doors in 1993, Emmaus Coventry & Warwickshire has grown considerably. We provide a home and meaningful work for 18 people who have experienced homelessness and social exclusion. Some stay for a while as they gain confidence and skills before they are ready to move on to independent living, while others are in need of longer-term support and are able to stay for as long as they need to. Those being supported help to run our social enterprises, including a second-hand furniture shop on Coventry’s Red Lane, to help fund the charity’s work.

Anniversary celebrations throughout the year included a special 25th anniversary open day event in June 2018, attended by guest Terry Waite CBE.

Emmaus Coventry & Warwickshire’s Community Director Geraldine Tsakirakis recently visited Holyhead Road United Reformed Church in Coventry to collect one of the final donations towards the anniversary appeal. Members of the church handed over a cheque for £3166.08, having held various fundraising events for Emmaus throughout 2018.

Speaking about the success of the appeal, Geraldine Tsakirakis said:

“It was an honour to visit the church and meet the very kind people who have raised so much to help. When we decided to launch our £25k fundraising appeal a year ago, we had no idea how successful it would be. Holyhead Road Church is just one example of so many generous local people who came together to support our cause by fundraising and donating throughout the year. All the money raised will go a long way towards helping to continue our work supporting people to move forward with their lives after experiencing homelessness.

“As the homelessness crisis sadly worsens across the UK, local support for charities like ours is ever more vital.”
