Kind volunteers help us decorate

RICS volunteers

Colleagues from the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) in Coventry recently gave up a day of their time to volunteer for us.

The kind-hearted RICS team was tasked with helping to redecorate some rooms in the grounds of our Binley-based accommodation.

The volunteering was part of an RICS scheme called ‘Giving Something Back Days’, which gives employees the chance to spend a day volunteering for a charity of their choice.

RICS Head of Quality & Service, Zoe Mobley took part in the day:

It’s been a fantastic experience and incredibly rewarding. Each year, RICS employees volunteer with numerous charities across the UK and this year, some of us chose to help Emmaus Coventry & Warwickshire because we wanted to support a really worthy charity from our local area. We’ve been hard at work, sanding, painting and working as a team to get the job done. It’s been a great day."

Speaking about the volunteering day, Jack Cudworth, Community Leader at Emmaus Coventry & Warwickshire said:

We’re delighted that RICS chose us. The people we help can stay in our community for as long as they need to. Some stay for a short time in order to get themselves back on their feet before returning to independent living, but others will need longer-term support. The volunteers have helped to make our accommodation feel more like home, which is a very important thing."

Our companion Daniel Hopkins met the volunteers during their visit:

It was great to meet the team; they seemed genuinely interested in the charity and motivated to do their bit to help. I made sure they were well-fed – cooking them pizza and providing cakes to fuel their efforts. It’s always nice when people in our local community support Emmaus, as I’ve experienced first-hand the great work they do to support the homeless."
