Two companions from Emmaus Colchester are taking part in a boxing challenge to raise money for Cancer Research UK.

Two of our companions are getting in the ring to raise money for Cancer Research UK. Connor and Ricky will be putting on their boxing gloves on Sunday 14 July at Atik in Colchester. The Ultra White Collar Boxing Experience is organised by Ultra Events with the aim to push people out of their comfort zones, while raising money for charity.

The programme, aimed at novices, includes eight weeks of free training in a local boxing gym, SD School of Martial Arts, with professional coaches. It culminates in a boxing bout, where each participant is fairly matched based on weight, fitness, ability and age with an opponent from the group they have trained with.

Neither have any previous experience of boxing but are excited to start the training programme.

Ricky said: “I’ve always wanted to have a go at boxing and the fundraising has given me the motivation to take part. Boxing is all about discipline and control and it will help me deal with my anger issues.”

Connor says: “I’m looking forward to the challenge, it will be fun getting involved with another group of people and making some new friends. Who knows, Ricky and I could be going face-to-face in the ring!”

Both companions have lost grandparents to cancer and are proud to be supporting the cause. Every participant is required to sell 20 tickets to the final event, at a cost of £25 per seat. If you’d like to attend the event, you can purchase tickets here.
