A team of formerly homeless people, staff and volunteers from homelessness charity Emmaus Colchester completed a 5k colour run to raise vital funds needed for the refurbishment and expansion of Emmaus Colchester’s community and charity shops.

On Saturday 20 June, the team joined other participants at the Ardleigh Showground in Colchester. Runners passed through a colour zone every kilometre, with volunteers known as the Colour Bandits ready and waiting to shower participants in a vibrant sea of colour.

Gintare Petrauskaite, Community Manager at Emmaus Colchester, said: “We had an absolutely amazing time doing the 5K Colour run. As a community, it brought us closer together and challenged us personally on a different levels. We were joined this year by an army of volunteers, a few companions and members of staff and will be definitely doing it again!’

Emmaus Colchester provides a home and meaningful work for up to 34 people who have experienced homelessness and social exclusion, offering them an alternative route out of homelessness within a supportive environment.
