Colour run puts the fun into fundraising for community

Members of Emmaus Colchester at the Colchester Colour Run 2017

A team of 10 formerly homeless people and volunteers from homelessness charity Emmaus Colchester recently completed a 5k colour run, raising £127.50.

On 15 July, the team joined other participants at Ardleigh Showground in Colchester to create a vibrant sea of colour. All proceeds from the day will go towards Emmaus’s work helping homeless people across the UK.

Lewis Clarke, a volunteer at Emmaus Colchester said: “Running is already part of my life so the chance to run for such an amazing charity as Emmaus and help those in need whilst doing something I enjoy, was an amazing experience.”

Gintare Petrauskaite, Community Manager at Emmaus Colchester said: “It was an enormous pleasure to take part in this year’s Colour5k event. The event created a real sense of excitement among our companions and volunteers who truly pushed themselves to their limit to raise funds, and more importantly, awareness for our charity. I’d like to thank everyone that spurred the team on during the race, it definitely helped them across the finishing line.”

Emmaus Colchester currently supports 34 formerly homeless people by providing them with a home and meaningful work in a social enterprise and an opportunity to regain lost self-esteem to help rebuild their lives.
