We currently have six trustees, all of whom bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to the organisation.
James McElhinney - Trustee and Treasurer
James is a Chartered Accountant. He qualified in 1979, became a Partner with Hughes Allen in Ipswich in 1981. James set up is own practice in 1997 specialising in the Haulage sector, before merging with and becoming a Partner in Scrutton Bland in 1999.
James remained as a Partner with Scrutton Bland until 2013 when he took early retirement. He now spends his time acting as a consultant to a number of hauliers in the Ipswich area. James is also a trustee and treasurer for Colchester based charity Autism Anglia.
Charles Ince - Trustee
Charles is a Fellow of The Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors and has spent his career in construction and development. For most of his working life he has been based in the Colchester area; he was a manager with R G Carter Builder until buying with a colleague into the long established Hutton Builders. They greatly expanded the business into the Hutton Group before selling their interest in 2004. A Trustee since 2003, Charles led the project to develop the community house.
Caroline Brock - Trustee
Caroline currently works in the healthcare industry and has a background in project management. Becoming a Trustee for Emmaus Colchester has given her the opportunity to transfer her skills to a community which can benefit from her knowledge of Policies and Procedural Planning, ensuring the organisation operates in a safe and efficient manner. Caroline has a keen interest helping her local community, recently climbing Kilimanjaro on her honeymoon to raise money for the Help for Heroes Recovery Centre in Colchester. Andrew Craig - Trustee
Andrew is a Chartered Accountant having qualified many years ago with KPMG. After several years in the service sector, he worked for M&G as a project manager. He has spent the majority of his recent career in senior finance roles within the financial services sector, including ten years as Company Secretary. Andrew now works locally for a large insurer and became a trustee in May 2015.
Laura Petford - Trustee
Laura has spent most of her career so far working in the charity sector, mainly in volunteer management, both with young and older people. She currently works at a Youth Employment Centre supporting young people into work or education. She moved to Colchester nearly three years ago and wanted to get involved with the local community. She has had experience of many different volunteering roles and as an Emmaus Trustee, she is interested in supporting the charity with volunteer management and pastoral support.
Peter Silk - Trustee
Peter was a founding partner of Colchester based graphic design company, Silk Pearce, which he set up with a friend in 1984. During his time at the firm he worked for a large range of clients, including many in the arts and culture sectors. In 2015 he left the company and since then has explored other creative areas including the creation of lino-prints and film-making. Peter became a trustee in autumn 2016.
