We work closely with other organisations in the Bristol area to support people who are homeless or trapped by poverty and to help them to develop skills and self-respect through working and contributing.

As well as working in the community, Emmaus companions are supported in whatever ways they need to address the issues that have brought them into Emmaus. Companions are encouraged to work in projects that help others in the neighbourhood, and much further afield.

Emmaus Bristol runs several social enterprises: we have three shops and an eBay store selling preloved goods, a house clearance service and a portable appliance testing service. When you purchase from us or donate to us, you can be guaranteed that you will be making a difference to other people’s lives.

Emmaus in the UK

There are 29 Emmaus communities right around the UK providing a home and meaningful work to previously homeless men and women. The first community was opened in 1991 in Cambridge and Emmaus has since spread nationwide.
