Local charity shop celebrates 1st anniversary

Barnet Shop Front

Emmaus Barnet, a part of homelessness charity Emmaus St Albans, is inviting customers to celebrate one year of trading in the local community, with live entertainment, a raffle, refreshments and a 20% discount on the day.

On Sunday 27 September Emmaus Barnet will be open for business between 12PM and 4PM, offering a 20% discount on the day to customers as a thank you for their support. In one year the shop has generated £150,000 turnover, which the surplus goes towards supporting companions (formerly homeless people) living and working within Emmaus.

Valerie Allwood, Shop Manager at Emmaus Barnet, said: “It has been a pleasure to work with the local community for the last year, and we would like to take this opportunity to show our gratitude to the people of Barnet for their overwhelming support to the cause.

“Recently, volunteers from the local area came in to join companions and refresh our shop’s interior. It was really humbling to see how many people were willing to give up their day to come and help us. We wouldn’t be anywhere without our wonderful companions, customers and volunteers, and hope to see many of them there on Sunday to join us in celebrating turning one.”

There will be live entertainment from a local guitarist throughout the day, accompanying a raffle and refreshments on offer during the free event.
