Volunteer Stories: Will
"I have been volunteering for Emmaus for the last two years in my holidays from university. I work in the central office of Emmaus which is based in Cambridge and which serves the Emmaus Communities and Groups which are all around the UK. My main focus is updating the data base, but I also deal with in-coming donations, and I help with fundraising research.
I think that my time volunteering with the charity will mean that I will be better prepared for the workplace when I graduate. Just getting to know how an office works has been useful and my computer skills have improved immeasurably.
I would recommend volunteering to other young people in my position because it gives you a kind of confidence that would be hard to get elsewhere. I really like feeling as if I am contributing something positive. When I see donations coming into the office it is satisfying to know that, even in a small way, I have helped towards giving homeless people a second chance at life.
Frequent cups of coffee and a fine selection of cakes also help to keep me motivated!"
