Emmaus Christmas card showcases Community talent
The 2007 Emmaus Christmas card and gift range includes a card featuring a piece of stained glass made by a resident of St Martin's Emmaus in Dover. Steve has a background in designing and teaching stained glass techniques and continued to put his skills to good use while a Companion (resident) at Emmaus, producing pieces for the Community shop and a window for the coffee shop area.
The stained glass panel, featuring a dove and globe and symbolizing hope for peace in the world, was photographed by Steve Cole, Chief Field Photographer for English Heritage, who gave his time and expertise for free.
"We are delighted to offer for sale this unique and attractive card, which showcases one example of the talent that can be found in Emmaus Communities", said Rosi Jack, Communications Officer at Emmaus UK. "It is a striking reminder that, although they may have fallen on hard times, many of the men and women who come to Emmaus are extremely skilled."
"Stained Glass Dove" is just one of 5 Christmas Card designs available from Emmaus, either by mail order or from your nearest Emmaus shop. A range of gifts is also available to buy, including pens made from recycled car parts, ecologically friendly jute shopping bags and videos about Emmaus and the inspirational founder of Emmaus, Abbe Pierre, who died this year.
