Emmaus South Lambeth runner up in Andy Ludlow Awards
In October 2009 Emmaus South Lambeth won a runner-up award of £1,000 at the 2009 Andy Ludlow Homelessness Awards. Applicants for the awards have to show evidence of work that improves services to homeless people, prevents homelessness or tackles disadvantage caused by homelessness, so ESL had no problem demonstrating that we have a system that works.
Four Companions and two Trustees attended the lunchtime ceremony in the British Library Conference Centre, along with representatives of the five other shortlisted projects, and John Heaney, MP, Housing MInister. Matt Peacock, Director of last year\'s winner, Streetwise Opera, introduced the ceremony by describing what it was like to win the award. Two-minute videos of each charity were shown, and you can see the Emmaus video here and the other candidates are listed here All of the films showed the hard work and dedication put into each project, and what a hard decision the judges had to make. The first prize was won by Broadway Housing Support
Run by London Councils on behalf of the capital’s 33 boroughs, the awards are sponsored by London Housing Foundation, the government’s department for Communities and Local Government, Shelter and London Councils\' Grants Committee. The awards are supported by Inside Housing magazine.
