Easter Fun Day
Easter Fun Day - with YolanDa Brown
Emmaus South Lambeth Community celebrated the first anniversary of our official launch on Saturday 11th April, with a Fun Day at our premises in West Norwood. Highlight of the day was a session by jazz saxophonist and MOBO 2008 “Best Jazz” winner YolanDa Brown, who delighted an audience ranging in age from toddler to senior. You can listen to YolanDa on YouTube, and buy her EP or DVD on www.yolandabrown.co.uk
Visitors to the Fun Day were able to browse a book, CD and DVD stall before taking a break at the café with home-made cakes and easter eggs aplenty, and then try their hand at games including Bat the Rat, Treasure Hunt, Co-can-hut Shy, Hook a Duck, and snooker. The event was run by Emmaus Companions, who not only thought up and planned the whole day, but made the attractions themselves, implementing the Emmaus ethos of recycling the old to make new.
Local businesses were generous donors to the Tombola and Raffle, which offered prizes from a meal for two at a local restaurant, to useful household and gardening items. Emmaus South Lambeth would like to thank all their sponsors for their support in this event. A list of sponsors will be posted here soon.
Entertainment was on the menu in Bobby Vincent House throughout the day, with turns from Pete the Street, one of the founders of Emmaus South Lambeth, local guitarists the Freewheelers, Julian James, and Ingrid. The Easter Bunny and Teddy Bear put in appearances both at ESL and on Norwood High Street.
