Emmaus Sheffield returns from the Great Lakeland Challenge triumphant

Congratulations to the team from Emmaus Sheffield: Community Leader Lawrence Buckley and Companions, Tam Comrie and Nathan Haynes. They successfully completed the Great Lakeland Challenge on 10th September 2010, paddling the length of Windermere, England’s longest lake, cycling 26 miles of England’s steepest mountain pass, and finally the steep climb up Scafell Pike.

Lawrence Buckley says: “The smiles on all our faces were worth every minute of kneecap-popping, muscle-burning, heart-exploding pain and bum-numbing torture of a day we will never forget when we each burned over 7,500 calories and paddled, cycled and climbed for pretty much 11 solid hours in some pretty foul Cumbrian weather. Would we do it again? Of course we would! Thank you to everyone who supported us and wished us well. It's nice to be a part of something big like Emmaus.”

Judged purely on total times, they came 8th out of a field of 16, which is a remarkable achievement. However, they still need help reaching their sponsorship target of £3,800, raising money for Wooden Spoon, a charity which runs projects for underprivileged children.

To help them through their final hurdle, sponsor them here.
