Emmaus Rugby says thank you to their supporters

Forty supporters of local charity, Emmaus Rugby, gathered together to share a hot buffet lunch last Saturday (22nd January 2011). It was hosted by the trustees of Emmaus Rugby as a way of saying a very big thank you to everyone who has supported their work during the last four years.

Emmaus Rugby began in 2006 in order to raise local awareness and funds for Emmaus. Emmaus is an international charity that supports single homeless people by providing them with a home, work, and a safe and supportive environment where they can rebuild their lives.

Janet Grant, one of the founding trustees of Emmaus Rugby, said, “Since we started, we have seen a small group of a dozen people develop into a growing band of volunteers who give up their spare time to support Emmaus Rugby in a variety of ways, perhaps as trustees, or by joining a task group such as fundraising, or by giving talks to groups, as well as working on our new website.

“We want to see the vision of Emmaus spread even further because it is not enough to provide homeless people with a bed for the night. The extraordinary vision of Emmaus is that by providing work for the companions (as residents are known) Emmaus also provides a motivation to get out of bed! Emmaus truly does give the most vulnerable people the skills they need to rebuild a future for themselves. What could be more worthwhile than that!”
