Our Staff

Emmaus Oxford now has a number of employees. Wyon Stansfeld is the Director and Margaret Brown the Administrator. They both joined the organisation in late 2006.

Wyon has worked for a number of charities. For seven years he directed Communicare Counselling Service in Uxbridge and has been Service Manager for Oxfordshire Family Mediation as well as a Project Manager within Refugee Resource in Oxford, where he managed a team providing therapeutic help for Refugees and Asylum Seekers and raised substantial funds for this cause. Previously a psychotherapist and social worker, Wyon has extensive experience of working with the more disadvantaged and vulnerable members of society.

Margaret's organisational and administrative experience has principally been in the charity and voluntary sector. She was responsible for the day to day finances of a Development Education Centre and fairtrade shop in Reading for some years, whilst continuing as a voluntary representative and local key contact for Traidcraft. In Oxford she has developed and managed a church bookshop and porter’s lodge, and was a member of a small group that set up Oxford's thriving fairtrade shop, fairtrade@stmichaels, where she was a founder director and treasurer.

Steve James is the Community Leader. He took up his appointment in October 2008. Much of his time prior to February 2009 was spent on a training programme which included residential periods in Communities in this country and France. A brief profile will follow in due course, but the fact that Steve's coffee mug bears the word 'Arsenal' might tell you something about one of this this guy's passions!

Andy Bache, Deputy Community Leader, is our newest recruit. He started work at the beginning of March, with less than a fortnight to find his feet before the arrival of the first Companions. That shouldn't be a problem for him: Andy is no stranger to Emmaus, coming to Oxford from Sheffield, where he worked as Community Support Worker. Prior to that he was a Companion at Greenwich, so will be known to many in the Federation.

Our furniture store, the Secondhand Superstore, is run by Store Manager Carl Salisbury, assisted by drivers and other staff and volunteers. Carl joined a furniture re use project in Manchester in 1995, moving south in 2003 to become the Coordinator of the OCVA Furniture Recycling Project. When that furniture store was transferred to Emmaus Oxford he became an Emmaus employee: he is excited by the prospect of the Secondhand Superstore's development once Companions start work.
