Emmaus Gloucestershire supports flood-affected residents

In spite of having no running water, the Emmaus Gloucestershire Community has remained open and residents have been working hard to help support others affected by the recent
flooding.

Emmaus Gloucestershire is supporting Liberal Democrat Councillor Phil McLellan's efforts to coordinate water distribution to the elderly and infirmed by transporting and distributing water directly to their residences.

The Community also donated 14 bags of blankets and towels to the Cheltenham Animal Shelter. Without running water, the Shelter has been struggling to maintain clean bedding and had appealed for donations to keep the animals warm, dry, and safe.

In addition, Emmaus is providing temporary warehousing for items donated from the good
citizens of Suffex while the Council arranges distribution to the flood victims, and the
Community has even helped one local family keep their home from flooding a second time by providing and transporting cement blocks to assist in building a barrier wall.

The 18 Companions who live at the Community house on Barnwood Road, Gloucester, and work at the Community shops in Gloucester and Cheltenham, have coped by using rainwater for
toilets. They have received support from other Emmaus communities and have been working
together to make the most of a difficult situation.
