Emmaus UK backs 'Give it Back, George' Campaign
The UK government has proposed changes in tax relief that intend to cap donations to charities to 25% of a donor's income, if they are giving more than £50,000.
Emmaus UK are supporting the Give it Back, George campaign, along with around 800 other charities including Crisis UK, Cancer Research UK, and NCVO.
These changes are potentially harmful to the voluntary sector. At a time when the government is cutting public funding, it was understood that wealthy individuals could step up and fill the gap, but these tax changes seem to contradict this.
Emmaus is not wholly reliant on charitable giving because of the way it supports itself through social enterprise, but with homelessness on the rise, we need more Emmaus projects to keep up with the demand, and setting projects up does often depend on generous donors.
