Former Emmaus Greenwich Companion to run the 2012 London Marathon

Andy Bache, a former Companion at Emmaus Greenwich, has started the training for the 2012 London Marathon. A former Companion at Emmaus Greenwich, Andy is now a member of staff at Emmaus Oxford.

He says: "Before 2006, I had the rosiest life you could imagine, you could say I had everything. Then myself and my partner broke up. I was down for a while. But I was very fortunate not to go down the drink and drugs route. I knew I had to get on with my life.

So in 2006 I joined Emmaus Greenwich. When I first found Emmaus, I didn’t really know the bigger picture, but after 4 months I met a couple of Federation Office staff members. I looked into everything to do with Emmaus, and 17 months later I was offered a staff job at Emmaus Sheffield. Then, 13 months later I was appointed Deputy Community Leader at Emmaus Oxford.

Now, as well as the day-to-day running of the Community, I'm directly involved with Solidarity (helping others), and the activity, recreation and international sides of things.

I’m running the Marathon because it’s my chance to give something back to Emmaus, and to give myself a new challenge."
