Heritage Open Day at Emmaus Mossley

As part of the Heritage Open Day celebrations Emmaus Mossley marked the ten year anniversary since their Heritage Centre was opened with a visit from the Mayor and a local brass band.

Emmaus bought Longlands Mill in Mossley to convert it into retail and living accomodation for previously homeless and unemployed people. Since the mill is part of local industrial history, it was decided to create a centre reflecting this legacy and Trustee Richard Darlington coordinated the project. He says:

"Mossley is fortunate in being able to have the centre which is made possible by Emmaus in providing the space, heating and lighting, by the volunteers who staff the centre and who work on the changing exhibitions and by the Civic Society in raising funds."

The Mossley Heritage Centre which was officially opened in October 2001 by Emmaus President Terry Waite is currently showing an exhibition of old with new photographs of the same places. Its sits alongside the thriving Emmaus Community where the residents support themselves and others by collecting, renovating and selling donated household goods.
