Family reunited thanks to Companions from Emmaus Preston

A Preston family has been reunited thanks to the efforts of Emmaus Preston. Janine, a young mother had her son taken into foster care as his accommodation was unsuitable. So a group of Companions visited the house then completely revamped it. Robbie and Chris re-plastered and decorated the bedroom, laid the carpet and arranged the furniture. Diana and Dylan worked at the warehouse to identify suitable furniture, sand it down and paint it, and once the room was ready, Craig collected the furniture and delivered it to the house.

The social worker described it as "nothing short of a miracle" and commented on the kindness and generosity of the people involved. Following the social worker's visit, the boy was reunited with his mother and able to move back into the family home.

A thank you note from Janine, the boy's mother read:
"Just a short note to see a huge thank you for all you have done for me and my family. My son is pleased as punch and its all down to your kindness. It is people such as yourselves that make the world a better place, you take negative situations and turn them into rainbows. A job done above and beyond excellence! I am and will be eternally grateful. Thanks, Janine and thank you from Dylan".

For this kind act, Emmaus Preston have been presented the John Thompson Award for Solidarity. This annual award recognises an outstanding act of Solidarity (helping others) by an Emmaus Community in the UK. John Thompson was the Fundraising Manager at the Emmaus UK Federation Office until his death in November 2007.
