Football, songs and Homeless Link at Emmaus UK's annual Federation Assembly

Over the weekend of 5-7 August, nearly 200 people from around the Emmaus UK Federation: Companions, Community Staff, volunteers, Trustees and members of the UK Federation Office, met for the annual Emmaus Federation Assembly, organised by the Federation Office.

The weekend kicked off with the Community football tournament, won by last year's runner up, Emmaus Sheffield. The Communities and Groups also gave updates of their past year. Representative Mark Skinner from Emmaus Village Carlton did his through the medium of song. Later over the weekend, President Terry Waite gave a powerful address, reflecting on both the 20 years of Emmaus in the UK together with the 20th anniversary of his release.

Delegates also heard from Jenny Edwards, Chief Executive of Homeless Link in her keynote address, and from Md.Aminul Haque of Thanapara Swallows, a social enterprise based in Bangladesh. A range of workshops were also on offer, ranging from "how to make the transition from Companion to staff", "what have the Trustees done for us" to upcycling and increasing shop revenue through online selling.

Andi, a Companion from Emmaus Preston, has written his reflections on the Federation Assembly here.
