Massive Paris sale for Emmaus Asia

Every year in Paris, Emmaus International organise a huge sale to support Emmaus projects worldwide. The Paris Salon, as the sale is known, brings hundreds of Companions, Staff and volunteers together at the Paris Expo. The 2010 Paris Salon opens its doors on Sunday 20th June at 9.30 a.m. Proceeds from the sale will support Emmaus International projects in Asia. Always a popular annual event in Paris, it's anticipated that this year's Salon will be especially busy as people affected by the current economic uncertainties scour the stalls for bargains.

Emmaus Communities have been puttng aside donations for the Salon for months and on Friday, there'll be full Emmaus vans and minibuses from all over the country on the roads heading for the ferries. As they drive towards Paris, they'll be joined by vans from all over Europe converging on the Paris Expo.

In addition to the stalls, selling everything from tea pots to bicylces, Emmaus International have organised stands where people can find out more about Emmaus projects.

For the first time, representatives of the Emmaus groups in Lebanon, Indonesia, Bangladesh and India will be represented on a special stand at the Salon, informing visitors about their work and selling local handicrafts made in their groups. The Paris Emmaus Association will also have a stand where people can learn more about their work on housing, social welfare and social reintegration.

More information

It's hoped that some time in the future, it might be possible for Emmaus in the UK to host a similar sale.

In the meantime, both Emmaus Sheffield and Emmaus Cambridge are organising Solidarity Sales in the near future and are inviting other Emmaus Communities to take part.

Dates: Emmaus Sheffield: 10th July; Emmaus Cambridge: 17th July.
