Team at Emmaus Oxford take on new challenge
Deputy Community Leader Andy Bache and three Companions from Emmaus Oxford are taking on the challenge of a lifetime. On the 1st May they are attempting to complete the Pennine Way trek in half the time it usually takes.
They are aiming to do the 268 mile walk over the most rugged and spectacular terrain in Britain in 8 days when the average time needed to complete the task is usually 16 days.
The famous walk starts at Edale in Derbyshire, runs north long the spine of England and across the Cheviot Hills and ends in the Scottish Border village of Kirk Yetholm.
Andy says:
“What we are attempting is a gruelling task. We will have to be moving at a minimum of 4 miles per hour, mile after mile, day after day. Anyone who knows the Pennine Way will know that that is quite hard going. We are going to be in for a real mental and physical challenge but I know we will do it.”
The team are hoping to create a New Guinness World Record and are raising money for Emmaus and for Help for Heroes. They are also planning on stopping off at Emmaus Sheffield and Emmaus Mossley for a cup of tea on their long tramp.
If you want to support the boys you can either contact Emmaus Oxford direct or visit the Emmaus Oxford fundraising page on Virgin Giving.
