New Garden Project at Emmaus Village Carlton

On 16th April Emmaus Village Carlton will be opening a brand new venture.

Elizabeth Harrington who joined Emmaus in 2007 after becoming homeless, is Project Leader of the new Garden Market at the Community and has worked tirelessly planting the 20,000 seedlings in 20 raised beds and two polytunnels. She says;

“Although it was tough when the weather was so cold at the end of last year, I have enjoyed the challenge of getting this project off the ground. I have missed quite a lot of evening meals here at the Community because I have been so absorbed in what I am doing that I have lost track of time. I am so proud of what we have achieved and am very excited about the opening day. I hope everything will be ready.”

Emmaus Village Carlton is home to 29 residents who work full time to run the Community and raise funds to support themselves and others. They already have several retail areas selling furniture, vintage clothing, bric-a-brac and books as well as a spacious and successful bistro. The plan is that with the opening of the Garden Market, Emmaus Village Carlton will be meeting more of the shopping needs of local people.
